Grow Flashcards

Privacy policy.

Grow keeps your cards and your study history on your phone. Nothing is uploaded unless you create an account and switch on syncing, and even then it is only ever your own cards going to your own devices.

Last updated: October 2, 2026

The short version

Your cards stay on your phone unless you ask them not to.

Grow works entirely on your device, with no account. If you want your decks and progress on more than one device you can create an account and turn on syncing — that is the only reason anything you study would ever be uploaded, and it is entirely your choice.

Either way: no analytics, no tracking SDKs, no ad identifiers, no profiling, and nothing sold or shared with anyone.

What Grow stores on your device

Everything the app knows about you is kept in a single database file on your device: your decks and cards, every review you have answered, your streak and statistics, your settings, and the seeds you have earned and spent.

If you never turn on syncing, that file is the only copy and it stays where it is. If it is included in your phone's own iCloud or device backup, that is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's terms, not by us.

What leaves your device

With syncing off, one thing, and it has nothing to do with your cards. Grow is built with Expo, and on launch it checks Expo's update service to see whether a newer version of the app is available. That request carries only what is needed to answer the question — things like the app version and platform. It does not include your decks, your cards or your answers.

Beyond that update check, Grow with syncing off makes no network requests at all. Studying works with no connection.

With syncing on, Grow also talks to our own server, and only to our own server, to exchange the data described in Accounts and syncing below.

Reading cards aloud

Grow can speak a card using your device's own built-in speech synthesiser. The text is handed to the operating system on the device and spoken there. Nothing is sent to us or to a third-party speech service.

Permissions

Grow asks for one permission, ever: notifications, and only at the moment you switch on the daily reminder. If you never turn reminders on, you are never asked.

Reminders are scheduled locally by the operating system on a timer. They are not pushed from a server, and no notification token is sent anywhere.

No analytics, no tracking, no ads

  • No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • No advertising, ad identifiers or ad networks.
  • No third-party trackers, pixels or social media SDKs.
  • No profiling, and nothing sold or shared with anyone.

Accounts and syncing

Syncing is optional and off unless you turn it on. Grow is built to work fully offline on a single device, and it stays that way for as long as you want it to. You are never required to create an account to study, and installing an update will not start uploading anything on its own.

If you do create an account, we store the sign-in details needed to recognise you — such as the email address or the identifier your sign-in provider gives us — and nothing more. We do not ask for your real name, your phone number, your date of birth or your location, and there is no profile to fill in.

With syncing switched on, the app sends your study data to our server so your other devices can pick it up:

  • Your decks and cards, including their colours, marks and nesting.
  • Your review history — the answers you have given and when you gave them — because that is what your schedule is rebuilt from.
  • Records of cards and decks you have deleted, so a deletion on one device doesn't come back from another.

This data is used for exactly one thing: getting your own cards onto your own devices. It is not sold, not shared with anyone, not used to build a profile of you, and not used to train anything. It is stored so that you can get it back.

Turning syncing off stops the uploads. Deleting your account deletes the copy held on our server, as described below.

Deleting your data

Settings contains a reset that erases the local database — your decks, cards and entire review history. It cannot be undone, so take care with it. Deleting the app from your device removes the local copy along with it.

If you have an account, you can ask us to delete it and we will remove the synced copy of your data and your sign-in details from our server. Email mdl0394@gmail.com and it will be done. Note that deleting the app from one phone does not by itself delete anything stored on the server — account deletion is the way to do that.

Children's privacy

Grow is suitable for all ages, and used without an account it collects nothing from anyone. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it and the data behind it.

This website

This page and the Grow home page are plain static files. There are no cookies, no analytics and no third-party requests — the fonts and images are served from this same domain. Our host records ordinary web server logs, such as the pages requested and the requesting IP address, for operational purposes.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Grow starts collecting or transmitting something this page doesn't mention, that will be described here before that version is released, and the "Last updated" date above will change with it.
